From the Artistic Director
As we contemplate the future of theatre here at Wellesley college we do so in the firm knowledge that none of it would have come to fruition without the loving support of Ruth Nagel Jones. Since building our “home” in 1992 ruth has been an unwavering figure of encouragement for countless numbers of students and faculty. From initial reading to fully realized production, her generosity and staunch belief in the work buoyed every experience on and off stage. She was, and will always remain the angel on our shoulder.
Although our Ruth is not with us in person we feel her presence in every nook and cranny of the theatre. She is in the wings with the acting novice anxiously awaiting that first entrance. She is in the booth as the design and technical staff make magic once more with lights and sound. She is holding the hand of the nervous new director on their inaugural opening night. She is in the audience as they peruse the program once again and marvel at new and old names on the roster.
She believed in her heart and soul that theatre could transform and transport mankind. Because she believed in us, we exist. Her love carries us on to new challenges and new horizons, and for that and so much else we are forever grateful.
